Our Autism Journey
Just before his 6th birthday, our youngest son Ethan was diagnosed with high functioning autism. The last few years have been a journey of discovery, where we have learnt all about autism and how it works as well as how to best help our son. Our whole family has felt the impact of Ethan’s autism and at times it has been really difficult. We have had to deal with tantrums, meltdowns, appointments, loss, and so much more. However, we have also discovered the uniqueness of Ethan.
When we first started along this journey, I asked the Lord about why Ethan and why us? I was hurting and in that hurt God spoke to me saying that Ethan would be someone who will show people that they can serve God and overcome the limitations that autism puts on them.
